Our hair is meant to be our crowning glory, not a messy nest that we spend hours on and shed tears over, and I know that if our hair doesn’t go right, then it affects how we feel. There’s no denying a fabulous salon cut and colour can really help, but lately I’ve been wondering about purchasing some clip in extensions – not for every day, but just for when I want a little more oomph.

Searching the internet, I realise they don’t have to look OTT or unnatural. After all, I’d say more often than not, many a celebrity sashaying down the red carpet with lustrous hair that glimmers and glints under the spotlight, has probably been given a helping hand with a little hairy enhancement, so why shouldn’t we?

I wasn’t surprised to find out that a recent survey carried out by industry hair and beauty retailer Hairtrade.com, put X Factor judge, Cheryl Versini Fernandez’s long, loose waves at the No1 most coveted hairstyle, closely followed by the awesome, natural and glossy tresses of our beautiful Princess, Kate Middleton. And for 2015 the love for long locks is set to continue with the likes of Kylie Jenner and Blake Lively looking like obvious hair trendsetters. Nowadays, whether the celebrities whose hair we adore is natural or not, there are ways we can work it to glean a touch of their glamour!

It’s true that Z list celebrities seen falling out of clubs, worse for wear, with their way too obvious extensions dangling limply like rats’ tails hasn’t really given extensions the best of reputations, but Laura Meredith, of Hairtrade says “Often they’re seen as a cheap alternative which don’t look real but if they are applied correctly, have the right consistency and the right shade then they genuinely look like real hair.”

Of course, there are lots available to choose from but before you buy, it’s a good idea to do some research and think about what length you’re after and when you might want to wear them. I’ve found some great ponytail styles that will look great for updos and can be worn casual or dressed up. Plus, there are some good discounts on at Hairtrade.com too!

Have you found the perfect extensions for you? I’d love to know what you think about giving your hair a little helping hand with a wig or hair piece.
